The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
